HiFime 9018D

This and That:

Nice, simple, clean design. No feet though.

Comes with a short USB cable.

No on/off switch.

USB mode switch on the rear makes the DAC plug & play with most devices.

Super convenient, very easy to read screen that shows the volume and sampling rate. The brightness setting can be changed, however only during power-up (right button). When the volume isn't being adjusted, the screen dims automatically and then shows the sampling rate.
One can switch between two digital filters, however only during power-up (left button; the filter setting is shown on the display).
Those settings are stored automatically.

The buttons are easy to press and also tactile, however their accentuation point feels a bit loose/undefined.

Sound:

Volume Control:

Perfect. 256 steps at constantly precise 0.5 dB.
Volume level shown on the screen (half dB steps shown as a dot after the number below -100 dB, otherwise correctly displayed as -x.5 at values greater than -99.5 dB).

Frequency Response (no Load, Digital Filters):

Output Impedance (loaded with Ultimate Ears Triple.Fi 10, Sharp Roll-Off Filter):

The calculated output impedance is tiny 0.1 Ohms - perfect even for the most critical, demanding multi-BA in-ears.

Hiss Performance:

Unfortunately poor; extremely hissy with very sensitive in-ears, and still audibly hissy with moderately/less sensitive models.

Subjective Sound Perception:

"Sounds" exactly like my iBasso DX90 to me, except for that the DX90's hiss performance is almost perfect whereas that of the 9018D is poor.
That said, it's just slightly "more aggressive" sounding in cymbal attack and slightly "wider" sounding compared to a sources that don't show any slight difference among each other using in-ears. All of that are only nuances though, and irrelevant during normal listening, and are only relevant for exhausting side-by-side comparisons.

Conclusion:

Excellent in all areas except for the hiss performance that is very poor.
