This and That:
Simple, but uniquely styled package.
Pouch instead of case. Nice pouch though.
Three different sets of silicone tips - three pairs of "bass" tips, three pairs of "treble" tips, one pair of mesh-filter tips. Sucks that the latter only come in one size (medium) while the others come in three sizes.
Unique shell design. Shells made of metal. Interesting tribal design. Large "Ostry" engraving/laser/etching/whatever on the flanks.
High comfort and easy to wear with the cable straight down or around the ears.
Nice cable. Supple and durable. No strain relief and no chin-slider though. Y-splitter is an actual "Y" made of metal.
Sound:
I'm using low impedance sources most of the time.
Personally, I'm using the largest included "treble" tips, but in the paragraphs below, I'm describing the sound of all of the different kinds of included tips as all of them alter the the treble response differently.
It's probably also interesting to note that the KC06A is extremely hiss-revealing - even more than my Shure SE846, although less than my Campfire Audio Andromeda.
Tonality:
"Treble" Tips:
V-shaped fun signature. Not overdone but not mild either.
Bassy, but not bass-heavy. Accentuated with focus on mid- and sub-bass. Upper bass less forward but still emphasised; full lower root. No real midrange bleed, just a bit of gentle and pleasant warmth in the lower mids, comparable to my Sennheiser IE 800.
Neither forward nor recessed/distant sounding midrange. Timbre appears accurate.
Relaxed central treble. Elevated upper highs. Bright but not sibilant or harsh. Good as a counterweight to the bass; I like the sound with these tips the most.
"Bass" Tips:
Similar bass and mids.
Subjectively more warmth though due to less treble quantity.
Upper highs slightly in the background/on the darker side of neutral.
Mesh Filter Tips:
Too small for my ears to seal.
Measurements indicate a dark, recessed treble response.
Resolution:
Good resolution for the price range below $100 but not outstanding or better than the competition.
Bass, typically for most dynamic drivers, on the softer, somewhat slower side. Softens more towards sub-bass.. Nice body though. Very good control.
Good midrange and treble resolution and note separation.
Soundstage:
Quite open sounding. Three-dimensional with good depth although rather oval overall with somewhat more width than depth.
Precise imaging (instrument placement, separation and layering).
Conclusion:
A nice dynamic driver in-ear below $100 with different ear tips that change the treble quantity.
What I dislike is that only one size (and pair) of the mesh filter tips comes included, but as those measure very dark anyway, it's not a big deal.
What I'd like are however a chin-slider and proper strain relief.
